lot bore can be monitored in real-time using
a Fluid Pressure Transmitter which provides
the operator with valuable new information
to react faster to potential drilling problems
and take preventive actions that reduce
the risk of an expensive inadvertent return.
The pressure data can also be stored in the
receiver’s memory and be uploaded for more
detailed project documentation.
Using a tension monitoring device, the
load applied to the product pipe during
the pullback can be monitored in real-time
and documented, and appropriate actions
can be taken by the rig operator during the
installation process.
Melfred Borzall
Always a leader in the HDD industry, Melfred
Borzall makes another advance with its rock
tool line.
The Iron Fist features a contoured design
ideal for drilling in cobble conditions. Re-
buildable carbide blocks across the face and
wear edges of the bit are available in two
configurations: conical cutters for fracturing
soft rock formations and rounded carbides
to effectively roll past cobbles. Wear areas
are treated with chunky carbide hardfacing
for longevity. Fluid holes are recessed to
prevent plugging, and a built-in check valve
minimizes clogging. The Iron Fist is aggres-
sive, dependable, and long lasting.
Borzall’s redesigned Eagle Claw is now
available in five sizes and excels in hard,
rocky soils. The new design improves cutting
efficiency and features aggressive
tri-tooth cutting action. Carbide
buttons are strategically placed
to minimize wear. Replaceable
cutters, available in three different
configurations, ensure the right
cutter for specific job conditions.
Manufactured with heat-
treated, chrome-nickel-moly alloy
steel for maximum strength and
durability, End-Load, High-Flow Transmitter
Housings feature multiple fluid passages for
maximum flow without pressure restrictions.
The end-load design allows maximum tor-
sional, compressive, and bending strength.
With simple, interchangeable internal
mechanisms, the same housing can be used
with most locating systems. Stainless steel
springs support and cushion the transmitter.
The High-Flow housing can be used with air
hammers as well as mud motors, Iron Fist
and Eagle Claw bits, and Bolt-On Bit Bodies.
The high performance Rock-It mud motor
is specifically designed for HDD applications.
Rock-It features a high torque-to-flow ratio
for more drilling power with less fluid, and
can be operated at slower speeds that are
more compatible with tri-cone bits. Built
with the highest quality internal parts results
in longer drilling times between regular
maintenance. Borzall also offers high-quality
Sandvik Tri-Cone rock bits.
Terramac
The Terramac RT9 rubber track multipurpose
crawler hauls equipment, debris, fuel, people,
and other materials smoothly over rough ter-
rain as well as soft or wet ground. Climbing
steep inclines to access areas that wheeled
utility vehicles can’t reach is effortless for the
RT9.
The dump bed option allows the operator
to fold down the sides of the bed to side-
load pallets or other items carried across
sensitive ground. Additionally, the rear bed
posts are removable to convert to a flatbed
in just a few minutes. The Terramac carrier
has an 18,000-pound carrying capacity with
a ground pressure of only 4.9 psi when fully
loaded. The unit offers rollover protective
structure (ROPS) and falling object protec-
tive structure (FOPS). Open and closed cab
options are available.
Buyers can also custom-order the base
unit of cab and carrier for manufacturer-
specific mounting ideal for utility and
pipeline construction. Front and rear bolt-on
attachments allow easy modification for a
multitude of applications.
Powered by a 230-horsepower Cummins
diesel engine, the RT9 offers increased car-
rying capacity, power, torque, and hydraulic
output. To improve drivability, RT9 features
a 2-speed hydrostatic travel system with
automatic downshift.
The Terramac RT9 crawler carrier is the
largest carrier in the mid-sized class that can
be transported without oversize permitting.
It is just 17 feet 7 inches long and 8 foot 5
inches wide. Excluding mount, the rig stands
9 foot 3 inches tall with a 20-inch minimum
ground clearance. The carrier has the ability
to travel up to 6 mph and has a 10-foot turn-
ing radius.
