made by multiple manufacturers with one
catalog number, which will help avoid delays
as all items ship together. Companies can
save money through reduced administrative
costs, leveraged buying, reduced receiving
costs, and reduced cost of labor spent on
non-installation activities.
This process can be performed for electri-
cal contractors, communication contractors,
commercial businesses, industrial businesses,
and the government. Kitting can reduce the
number of miles driven via deliveries or trips
to your local Graybar location.

In the networked world of the future, mini-
and even micro-trenching is playing a large
part. Formerly extensive, open-cut trenches
are being replaced with narrow (from two
inches down to as little as 0.5 inches wide)
cuts for laying fiber-optic cable and conduit.
As with all trenching or horizontal
directional
drilling jobs,
reliable tools are
paramount. Ken-
nametal’s new
CM-Mini Series
offers a range of
small-diameter
block and bit
in NB, plug,
and cap-style
tips to match a
wide range of trenching requirements. For
example, the CM61 features a small-diameter
tip designed for increased penetration, while
its rear-mount style makes it accessible to
worn bore blocks. The CM65 by comparison
features a wide collar for maximum block
protection along with a cap carbide tip
profile for excellent performance in medium
to hard abrasive cutting conditions. There are
also four new tools in Kennametal’s new CM-
Mini series: CM69, CM70, CM71, and CM72
with proven NB tip carbide.
A range of carbide tip styles are available
for the CM Mini Series. Plug-style tips feature
a physical lock between steel and carbide for
maximum toughness. Cap-style tips are the
premier choice for abrasive applications with
the carbide on the business end, not sunk
into the shank. The NB tip withstands abra-
sive cutting like a cap with the physical sup-
port of a plug. Unlike a cap point that blunts
at the end of wear life, the NB tip sharpens as
it wears, making it an excellent choice in rock
cutting as well as asphalts/abrasives.
Micro-trenching is gaining attention
because of increased efficiencies (narrower,
shallower cuts accomplished in less time with
less disturbance in busy environments). New
CM Mini Series tools from Kennametal will
make this global trend even more effective.
