If someone asked you for the six most expensive words

in the construction industry, how would you answer?

How about, “Put that over there for now.” Our field

managers often find themselves “too busy” to plan.

You may have overheard a conversation or two where

someone said, “I’ve got real work to do,” “I don’t

have time to plan,” or “We are already behind on this

project so let’s get busy and we will figure it out as we

go.” We want our crews to be busy, but a strong work

ethic, although admirable, may also be quite costly.

We also need the field to pre-think how they intend

to deliver the work, including people, materials, and

equipment. In this session, we will review the ten

things that every field manager should consider before

picking up the tools. We will also put these principles

into practice during a competitive logistics/planning

exercise.
