and he said that even the water and sewer market is
looking up.
For a keynote speaker, Steve Sellenriek shared a
bit of his past, lining up noted author and speaker
Marcus Engel, who like Steve graduated from Mont-
gomery County R-II High School in Missouri. Engel
first recounted, in harrowing detail, the story of how
he was blinded and nearly killed by a drunk driver
when he was 18 years old and on his way home
from a hockey game. He spoke of the challenges he
faced, the strategies he used to overcome them, and
the family and friends (including dogs) who helped
him along the way. He took a tragic story and turned
it into an uplifting story of hope and perseverance.
Through his entire ordeal, he carried a message that
his high school principal had told him years earlier
after a fender-bender in the school parking lot:
“Change the things you can, and don’t worry about
everything else.”
The social events at the Mid-Year had a distinc-
tive Sellenriek flavor, as well. The PCCA Golf
Tournament was held at The Cove, where Steve has
drowned countless golf balls over the years; the
party at H. Toads featured longtime family-favorite
band Butch Wax & the Hollywoods; and on the
meeting’s final day they opened up their lake home
for an unforgettable party at Sellenriek Cove. As
they had at functions all week long, the PCCA crowd
showed up in big numbers, enjoyed the amazing
hospitality, and had a wonderful time.
As the sun set over the Lake of the Ozarks and the
2014 PCCA Mid-Year Meeting, President Sellenriek
had an important message for all association mem-
bers: See you in Aruba!
