Marcus Engel, In the Blink of an Eye
An unforget-
table journey
that changes
lives! Mar-
cus Engel
inspires
audiences to
achieve suc-
cess by mak-
ing intelli-
gent choices.
Marcus
speaks from
experience.
After being
blinded and severely injured by a drunk
driver, Marcus overcame unimaginable
obstacles to return to college and reclaim
his life. This dramatic story inspires au-
diences to maximize their potential and
achieve their dreams.
Marcus’ programs help audiences to:
• Attain success despite the obstacles
• Recognize and reverse self-limiting
behaviors
• Turn challenges into accomplishment
• Value interpersonal relationships
• Discover the essential value of humor
• Appreciate the unique benefit of every
individual
• Understand the power of personal
choices
A graduate of Montgomery County
R-II High School in Missouri, also the
alma mater of PCCA President Steve
Sellenriek, Marcus is a professional
speaker and best-selling author whose
messages provide insight and strategies
for excellent patient care. His keynote
presentation, “The Other End of the
Stethoscope,” has been witnessed by
tens of thousands of health care profes-
sionals and his books are used in scores
of nursing schools to teach the basic
foundations of caregiving.
As a college freshman, Marcus was
blinded and nearly killed after being
struck by a drunk driver. Through two
years of rehab, more than 300 hours of
reconstructive facial surgery, and adapta-
tion through a multitude of life changes,
Marcus witnessed the good, the bad, and
the profound in patient care.
Marcus is the co-founder of the I’m
Here Movement, a 501(c)3, which is
changing the culture of care with two
simple words. Marcus holds a B.S. in
sociology from Missouri State Univer-
sity and an M.S. in Narrative Medicine
from Columbia University. He lives in
Orlando, Fla., with his wife, Marvelyne,
and his seeing-eye dog, Garrett. Marcus
is, in his words, a social media junkie
and loves to connect with health care
professionals nationwide. All informa-
tion on connecting can be discovered at

Section 1031,
Like-Kind Exchanges of Business
Equipment with Steve Chacon
Like-kind exchanges
allow sellers of trade,
business, or invest-
ment property to
dramatically increase
their cash flow by
deferring the income
taxes due at sale.
Also known as Sec-
tion 1031 Exchanges,
they are an extreme-
ly powerful and proven alternative to
the taxable gain requirements. As such,
various types of business-use equipment
generally qualify for like-kind exchange
treatment. The sale and purchase
transactions must be carefully structured
to ensure compliance with Internal
Revenue Code requirements. This ses-
sion will address the like-kind exchange
process generally, as well as particular
issues that arise with owners of heavy/
contracting type equipment.
Steve Chacon, CPA, CES, is Senior
Managing Director at Accruit, LLC.
For nearly 20 years, he has provided
practical guidance as a financial state-
ment auditor, tax advisor, entrepreneur,
and educator on Section 1031 like-kind
exchanges.
Passionate about the industry, Steve
enjoys engaging with colleagues, legisla-
tors, and other professionals on the
benefits of LKEs. As a speaker, he has
lectured at events sponsored by a wide
spectrum of industry leaders, including
EnergyNet, the Federation of Exchange
Accommodators, Western Energy Alli-
ance, AssetNation, PriceWaterhouseCoo-
pers, CAT Auction Services, IronPlanet,
JJ Kane Auctioneers, and Ritchie Bros.
Auctioneers.
Steve is the treasurer for the Federa-
tion of Exchange Accommodators and
is a participating member of the FEA’s
Government Affairs Committee and its
Executive Committee.
Licensed in the State of Colorado,
Steve is a Certified Public Accountant
and holds a Bachelor of Science degree
in Business Administration with an Ac-
counting Emphasis from the University
of Colorado. He has completed focused
courses at the University of Denver’s
rigorous Graduate Tax Program and High
Performance Leadership Program.
1 - 6 pm PCCA Golf Tournament at the Cove
The Lodge of Four Seasons is home
to three popular lakeside golf courses
designed by Robert Trent Jones, Ken
Kavanaugh, and Jack Nicklaus. It is the
only venue in Missouri that boasts 54
championship holes.
The Cove, the Robert Trent Jones
design, is the Lodge’s signature golf
course. It is the most challenging of the
three layouts with rolling greens and
undulating fairways. The many eleva-
tion changes make a flat lie hard to find.
More than 60 bunkers are strategically
placed along the greensides. It is a true
championship test, but a scenic respite
is offered by the tranquil views of the
Lake. The demanding fourth hole is the
course’s signature, nicknamed “Witch’s
Cove.” Don’t let the beautiful scenery
distract you though; this hole has seen
many bogeys. It requires a long carry
over the lake and sand to a deceptive
putting surface.
$90 includes greens fees and box lunch.
$39 extra for rental clubs. CLUB RENTALS
ARE EXTREMELY LIMITED.
