P
CCA’s Leadership Develop-
ment Committee met dur-
ing our recent convention
in Naples, Fla., and we are
excited to announce the
launch of an expanded training program
at next year’s convention in St. Thomas
(March 14-18 at the Frenchman’s Reef &
Morning Star Marriott Beach Resort). In
short, the program’s goal is to improve
the business acumen and performance of
PCCA member companies.
The first thing folks will notice is the
new name: the PCCA Leadership Devel-
opment Program. Although our primary
audience is the younger professional, the
program will benefit anyone interested
in growing his or her leadership capa-
bilities. We will also include our more
experienced members as subject matter
experts and give them the opportunity
to share their knowledge and experience
during these sessions.
Our aim is to provide program partici-
pants the improved ability to lead and
grow their businesses, implement and
execute sound management processes,
successfully manage multiple moderate
to large contract projects, understand
and control enterprise risk, and strength-
en customer relationships and trust. We
are working with our partners at FMI to
develop course material that is not only
construction-industry specific, but is also
customized using PCCA’s subject matter
experts and examples specific to power
and communication construction.
The PCCA/FMI team is creating a
course curriculum that includes six
one-day modules to be delivered each
year at the convention. There will also
be a two-hour “debrief” session during
the convention to allow for Q&A with
subject matter experts who will share
real-life experiences related to the sub-
ject matter for that year. We also plan to
assign application “homework” between
conventions to reinforce the concepts
presented and to encourage the practical
implementation of the techniques and
skills when participants get back on the
job.
A big thank you goes out to the folks
at FMI, especially Andy Patron, for
helping us sort through our goals and
resources to develop this program. And
thanks to the committee members for all
their work and input: John Fluharty, Dan
Levac, Kevin Mason, Steve Sellenriek,
Dan Tait, and the PCCA staff.
I look forward to seeing everyone
at the upcoming Mid-Year Meeting in
Colorado (July 10-13 at The Broadmoor
in Colorado Springs) to discuss the pro-
gram further and in St. Thomas at our
first session.
