Title: Using Other People’s Videos

Hello,

So what if you don’t like making videos, and you don’t have the
money to outsource or simply don’t want to deal with having your
own video content?

The answer is using other people’s content, which some people
refer to as OPC.

OPC is great, because you can provide your own visitors with
quality content, without having to invest time or money into
creating your own.

You can embed videos from YouTube and other video sharing sites
in order to enhance your own site, and it’s totally legal and
within the terms and conditions of those sites. (They even
include embed links on nearly every video for this reason.)

You can still get SEO benefit from every video by including your
own description of the video, as well as your own unique
commentary, to the page you embed the video on. For example, you
can talk about what you like in the video, what you think is
incorrect in the video, how you might do things differently,
etc.

But wait, won’t you be promoting your competitors?

Okay, that’s slightly true. Yes, sharing their content on your
own site might send some of your traffic off to another person’s
website. But that’s not really a bad thing, especially if you’ve
managed to get that person to follow you on social media or sign
up to your email list first. The benefits you get from sharing
those videos is far more than any potential traffic you might
lose.

Plus, you can lessen this effect in a couple of ways:

* Choose videos that don’t contain a lot of marketing.

* Eliminate the controls on the video so people cannot click
them to leave your site

* Eliminate things like annotations

Tomorrow we are going to talk about a very special system you
can use to regain control over videos you embed from YouTube and
other sources, making them behave pretty much exactly like
videos you host yourself.

Until then,
