Title: Subject line: Be your own best friend

Hello,

You’ve listened to, understood, and acknowledged
your inner critic. Now it’s time to give that
doubting voice a new script to follow.

Read over what you first wrote down when you
listened to your inner critic. I’m willing to
bet the words were harsh ones. We’re almost
always harder on ourselves than we are on other
people, right?

Now, rewrite what your inner critic said to
you, imagining that you are giving advice to
a dear friend. Someone you love and want to
encourage and support.

Instead of saying, “You shouldn’t try because
you’ll fail,” you’ll probably find yourself
saying, “You can do anything you set your
mind to.”

Instead of saying, “You’re stupid and
incompetent,” you’ll say, “You’re smart
and capable and I believe in you.”

The takeaway here is that you would never
talk to someone you cared about the way you
talk to yourself.

Don’t you deserve to be spoken to with
kindness and understanding?

I think you do! Any time you hear that inner
critic saying terrible, discouraging, unkind
things to you, rewrite that script.

Remember that you’re a friend and speak to
yourself accordingly.

Until next time,
