Glen Amerine:
Meeting Challenges in the
Construction and Association Business
Continued on page 8
P
CCA President Glen
Amerine started his
company with a small
amount of equipment
and a whole lot of
ambition, and through hard work,
business acumen, and the support
of his family, he built Amerine
Utilities Construction, Inc., Great
Bend, Kans., into a highly success-
ful underground construction and
directional boring contractor. And
as PCCA president, Glen has led
one of the most successful years
in association history, overseeing a
very successful Mid-Year Meeting,
the addition of new educational
programs, and, along with his wife,
Pat, the planning of the upcoming
PCCA Convention, which has the highest pre-registration of
any PCCA meeting in more then a decade.

home in 1972 to work in Amerine Electric Company, Inc., an
electrical contractor business that his father had begun 35

equipment from a very small underground cable company in
our small hometown in the middle of Kansas. My only option
of a job was to go to the bank and
borrow enough to buy this small
amount of equipment and go to
work with it. Amerine Utilities Con-
struction, Inc. was started, and the
rest is history.”
As most folks reading this
magazine know, the construction
industry is never easy sailing, and
those early years were demand-
ing. “Since the beginning, we were
totally consumed with keeping the
company alive by getting that next
job, buying or renting more equip-
ment to do the job, and keeping the
bankers happy,” Glen said. “Always
growing in size and equity was our
