ing up to answer their questions, his candor, and perhaps the funniest line of the meeting: “No, I won’t be playing paintball with you tomorrow.”
The most moving part of the Mid-Year was the presentation by Sgt. Matt Eversmann who recounted his harrowing story of an 18-hour battle on the streets of Mogadishu, Somalia in 1993, which was the basis for the 2001 film Black Hawk Down . He left the audience with three attributes that helped him survive in Mogadishu and would help them navigate through life: leadership, courage, and selfless service. Sgt. Eversmann hung around after his talk to chat with people, and he and his family also enjoyed the PCCA bowling event. This year’s Mid-Year Meeting also included a general ses-sion on employee engagement and a Young Construction Professionals program on supply chain client relationships, both led by FMI’s Lee Smither. The Membership Commit-tee met to discuss member recruitment, topics for future educational sessions, and how to get folks more involved.
The Labor Committee used its time at the meeting to discuss the job classifications used on Davis-Bacon prevailing wage surveys and to begin creating standard classifications that all contractors can use. The goal is to have the job classifications more accurately reflect jobsite realities.
PCCA President Larry Libla and his wife, Pam, selected the Greenbrier for the Mid-Year because of its history, beauti-ful location, unbeatable service, and wealth of fascinating and fun activities. PCCA members took advantage of all of the above, with tours of the famous Cold War era bunkers, afternoon tea each day in the hotel lobby, the Champagne Waltz each night in the casino, the aforementioned paintball and bowling outings, an afternoon of sporting clays (good practice for the paintball!), the PCCA golf tournament, and a wonderful closing night barbecue featuring an amazing local bluegrass band, the Locust Mountain Boys. After four days of good times at this fabulous resort, the sentiment from PCCA members seemed unanimous: Well done, Larry and Pam!
